Real Madrid and Manchester City in a Battle for Italian Midfielder Samuele Ricci
According to reports, European champion Real Madrid is interested in signing Manchester City’s transfer target, Italian midfielder Samuele Ricci. Although the Whites are aware of City’s interest in the 23-year-old, they have made progress in the negotiations for the defensive midfielder.
Since joining Torino from Empoli in the summer of 2022, Ricci has developed into one of the most promising players in Serie A. He possesses excellent awareness, is a good passer, and is difficult to shake off, often pushing high up the pitch and contributing to the attack whenever possible.
Ricci’s progress has not gone unnoticed, and many top teams, including Manchester City and Real Madrid, have expressed their desire to sign him. According to Fichajes.net, Ricci is open to a move to Manchester, which has encouraged City to hold talks with Torino over a potential transfer. With Rodri out of action for the season, City believes Ricci’s talents would be an asset, as they aim to win their fifth consecutive English title.
However, Real Madrid sees Ricci as a key player to address its midfield balance issue. Although they have some of the world’s most sought-after midfielders, they are convinced that Ricci is a player worth signing.
According to Transfermarkt, Ricci is currently valued at €28 million (approximately $30.4 million). Given the attention he is drawing in the market, Torino is likely to demand a much higher fee for the player.
Ricci praises Manchester City’s Rodri, but denies rumors
In an interview with RAI Sport earlier this month, Ricci mentioned rumors linking him with a move to Manchester City. While he remained tight-lipped, he revealed that he often watches videos of City’s ace Rodri to improve his game.
"It’s very nice, but I’ve learned to understand football a bit better," Ricci began. "When things are going well, you’re connected to these big clubs, and that’s nice because it means you’re on the right track."
I train a lot, practicing to turn my head to see what’s behind me, because that can make the difference. Sometimes one has to look twice, and that’s what Luciano Spalletti has taught me. My coach sends me videos for learning, many of which are from Rodri. You can see how important the small things are."
Ricci has played 87 games across all competitions for Torino, scoring three goals and providing six assists. His contract with the club runs until June 2026.
