Vice President JD Vance took a shot at a reporter who claimed that the Trump administration’s removal of a portrait of retired Gen. Mark Milley from the Pentagon hallway is akin to what dictators do.
Milley, the retired Army general and former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who on several occasions subverted orders from his Commander-in-Chief, had his portrait removed from the Pentagon within two hours of President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
It had been revealed just 10 days prior to its removal.
Earlier this week, newly minted Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced that Milley’s security clearance and detail were being stripped while officials consider issuing a demotion for the general in retirement.
On top of that, a second portrait of Milley was being removed.
This was deeply disturbing to one reporter who said as much, but ignored her own history.

Reporter Very Upset About Milley’s Portrait Being Ripped Off The Wall
First of all, why does Mark Milley have so many portraits in the first place? Let’s hope Hegseth alters the Pentagon culture of handing out participation awards for every little act.
Second, New Yorker reporter Susan Glasser was beside herself over the portraits being removed, advising people to look back at history to see what kind of “regimes” do this type of thing – as in, removing homages to public figures.
Can you figure out where this is going?
“The pulling down of portraits and forced erasing the past is a reminder—check your 20th century history about what kind of regimes do this stuff,” she wrote on X.
Essentially – ‘You know who else ripped down portraits of generals? … Hitler!’
The only problem is, the left has been doing this for years, with the statues of actual American heroes.

Reporter Gets Slapped Back To Reality
Social media users were quick to point out that those trying to erase the past were liberals and their cohorts in the media. Glasser, who is urging people to do their research, apparently forgot that between 2016 and 2024, they were heavily encouraging Democrats to remove statues of historical figures, including those of the founding fathers.
And they happily complied with that erasure of history. Glasser was one of them.
The Federalist’s co-founder, Sean Davis, pointed out that the New Yorker reporter was herself demanding this kind of action for other figures.

Aside from followers on X slapping her back to reality, JD Vance also took a jab at Glasser.
“Imagine having lived through the last 10 years–the desecration of Washington, Jefferson, Lee, Roosevelt, and even Lincoln–and then drawing the line at…Mark Milley,” he replied.
He added this incredible assessment: “You can pull down a statue of the father of the nation, but don’t you dare touch the portrait of the guy who couldn’t win wars,” he mocked.
They spent entire summers either voting to remove statues or having their street thugs pull them down in blatant acts of vandalism, but taking down a vanity painting of a former general who no longer works at the Pentagon is just a bridge too far.
The real dictators are gone now. That’s why Glasser is upset.
