It was New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2023. An heiress to a German steakhouse empire walked with her partner to the ballroom of the family-owned hotel in the port city of Hamburg. Around 180 kilometers north of there, in the town of Graasten, Denmark, a group of Israelis observed a man and two children as they stood on the water’s edge watching fireworks. Fifteen minutes after midnight, the order was given: The Israelis exited two rented vehicles, violently attacked the man and abducted 10-year-old Theo and 13-year-old Klara.
